PRIMO LENSES

Panavision has announced a new line of Primo 70 lenses specifically designed for large-sensor digital cameras. Compatible with the Primo 70 mount available on cameras such as the ARRI ALEXA, RED EPIC DRAGON, Sony F55, Phantom 65/Flex4K and more, the lenses and optics have been constructed to reproduce pleasing skin tones, natural bokeh, flat field, natural sharpness, reduced chromatic aberration, minimal breathing, excellent field illumination and close-focus performance. Currently, there are three zooms in the line—the 28-80mm T3.0, 70-185mm T3.5 and 200-400mm T4.5—plus the 12 primes that incorporate a constant bright T2.0 aperture across the line in the 24mm, 27mm, 35mm, 40mm, 50mm, 65mm, 80mm, 100mm, 125mm and 150mm models; a 200mm and 250mm are also available with a T2.8 iris. Most of the lenses have a matching front diameter of 112.8mm, as well, while the 28-80mm and 200-400mm feature a 126.5mm front. SONY SHOOTER

Adding to the immensely popular full-frame and fully loaded a7 series of mirrorless still cameras, the new 24.3-megapixel Sony a7 II updates the family with 30% faster autofocus, as well as a number of heightened video features. The a7 II includes 1080/60p video at 50 Mbps in the XAVC codec, advanced video compression through the new Bionz X processor and picture profiles, as well as the S-Log2 gamma function for extending dynamic range. Featuring five-axis image stabilization, the camera can correct for vertical and horizontal movements in both video and stills that results in up to 4.5 stops of compensation. With a mount for Sony E lenses, other video features include Time Code, Rec Control for syncing to external recorders and dual video capture. RETURN OF THE C100

Building on extended customer feedback from the first-generation EOS C100, Canon‘s updated camcorder system has been redesigned as a compact, one-person production model. With an updated DIGIC DV 4 imaging processor, redesigned 3.5-inch, 1.23-megapixel OLED display, larger viewfinder, WiFi connectivity for wireless transfers and internal Dual Pixel CMOS AF autofocus, as well as dual AVCHD and MP4 formats at 59.94p/50p, the EOS C100 Mark II retains the same Super 35mm 8.3-megapixel CMOS sensor of the previous model, but expands ISO sensitivity to a range of ISO 320-102,400. For HD users, Over Sampling HD Processing will downscale 4K images to HD video for heightened resolution and color fidelity over direct HD capture. If the C100 Mark II is used with Canon’s new line of STM (Stepping Motor) lenses, Face AF will track more than one subject through a frame. Dual SD slots offer Double Slot Recording for your choice of AVCHD+AVCHD, MP4+MP4 or AVCHD+MP4 capture and redundancy. Canon Log LUT has been added for previewing footage, and you can output an uncompressed YCbCr 4:2:2 8-bit signal with time code data and 2:3 pull-down markers over HDMI. List Price: $5,499. 4K CINEMA MONITOR

The Digital Cinema 4K from LG Electronics is a professional monitoring solution for color grading, editing, graphics and special effects. With full 4K resolution at 4096×2160 pixels on a 31-inch screen displaying 10-bit color depth for more than a billion colors, the 16:9 widescreen monitor covers over 99.5% of the Adobe RGB color space gamut. The Digital Cinema 4K also features Dual Color Space software for color calibration and an IPS display for a wide viewing angle. 4K CAM PRODUCT LINE

To address the needs of cinematographers, indie shooters, webcasters, broadcasters, and corporate and live event production teams, JVC has announced three new camcorder models to start the company’s series of 4K Ultra resolution solutions. The top-of-the-line GY-LS300 has a large Super 35mm-sized sensor and interchangeable Micro Four Thirds lens mount. It captures to commonly available dual SDHC/SDXC cards at up to 4K Ultra alongside HD with 4:2:2, standard-definition and Web-friendly proxy files. Variable Scan Mapping technology maintains the angle of view for a variety of lenses on the LS300, including Super 35, MFT and Super 16. With dual XLR inputs for pro mics, the camcorder is also capable of HD streams for instant uploads to Ustream, Wowza or elsewhere through internal WiFi and 4G LTE connectivity, as is the slightly less expensive GY-HM200 camcorder model. Offering 4K Ultra HD, 4:2:2 HD at 50 Mbps and SD imagery available via the 1/2.3-inch BSI CMOS chip, the smaller-sensor GY-HM200 also sports a built-in 12x zoom lens. The even more economical GY-HM170 is another 4K Ultra model in a palm-sized form factor for ease and portability. The body has been designed for professional use, however, and it captures 4K Ultra HD as H.264 files, with HD and SD available in a variety of resolutions and frame rates.
