What to See at the Show
Here’s some of what will be taking a close look at this year’s expo:
- Cutting-edge Trends: We’ll be reporting on what’s trending in film and video. For instance, what formats, lenses and workflows are attracting attention. We’ll also examine if filmmakers are still looking for the larger and heavier full-format cameras. We think some will be opting for smaller, lighter S35-imager cameras.
- Improvements to Workflow: We’ll investigate if any products or services are improving workflows. That includes backup services, solid state drives (SSDs) and other tech. We’ll also see what manufacturers are repurposing older, existing products. We’ve seen some that are refitting older gear with newer, more efficient technology.
- New Methods, Techniques and Markets: New products and accessories, like drones, aren’t just driving new ways of filming subjects, but they’re opening new markets in filmmaking, from science to travel. We’ll be sure to cover any emerging methods and techniques at the show, including trends in new media and VR.
- Latest Cameras, Lenses, Lighting, Accessories and Other Gear: We’ll be sure to report on any announcements in filmmaking hardware, including cameras, lenses, lighting and more. We’ll also be on the lookout for any new rigs or gimbals that stand out as well as newer power supplies that allow you to use your camera or lights for a longer period of time. Plus, we’ll report on any software and apps we see on view.
Events & Awards
Additionally, we’ll also be covering the winners of this year’s Cine Gear Expo awards: We’ll find out which products and services are winners of the Cine Gear Technical Awards, the expo’s annual recognition of the products with the best of the industry’s technical advancements. Product categories include best camera technology, optics, lighting, support, sound and accessories. This year, the Cine Gear Expo has announced its Outstanding Technical Achievement award, which will go to “KinoFlo for the continuing advancement the brand has made to lighting technology.”
Additionally, the Legacy Award will be presented to “George Spiro Dibie, ASC, for his outstanding contribution to the art and generous service to the industry and Claudio Miranda, ASC, will receive the Visionary Award for his outstanding Cinematography.”
We’ll also report on winners of the Film Series, which will receive filmmaking equipment, including cameras, lighting and accessories from the sponsors of the competition. Last year, categories included Best Student Short Film, Independent Short Film, Commercial and Music Video and Award for Visual Excellence.
