Noting in the press release that, “Thanks to technological advances, the intensity of light from LED fixtures has increased to the point where using them in concert with larger Octa lightbanks is now a viable solution,” they’ve announced a new quick release TECH Multi Bracket #9224 that will mount Chimera’s popular 5’ Octa lightbanks to LED panel fixtures. The TECH Multi Bracket #9224 will fit square and horizontal panels, including models from Ikan, Litepanels, Cineo, Creamsource and ARRI at up to at total of 4.5 lbs. With a 12” length of travel for extending the fixture head to accommodate a variety of supported fixtures, the #9224 adapter also folds down in a quick-collapsing design for storability. Chimera is planning new 3 foot and 5 foot Octa TECH lightbanks for the new adapters that will shape and diffuse the output of the LED panels for control over the beam angle and light spread while eliminating any spillage from the sides or rear. Including reflective interior and fitted baffle, the Octa lightbank channels light forward to increase and homogenize output for a soft and flattering soft source spread.
Adapting high powered LED lighting solutions to short profile Space Light fixtures, which make LED panels usable not just a space light but also as a key light, they have also released two other LED adapters, The Junior #9906, and the Senior #9916. The Space Bracket Junior #9906, is a smaller collar that measures 20” in diameter that will fit lights like the Sumolight Sumospace and the Olessen-SSL Reel-Lite Mini. The larger Space Bracket Senior fits larger models under a diameter of 31”, like the Olessen-SSL Reel-Lite and Mole Richardson 900W Vari-Skypan. Both adapters are constructed from aluminum alloy to resist corrosion. An Octa Space 3’ #6230 and an Octa Space 5’ #6255 fixture are also available from Chimera that has been sized specifically for The Junior and The Senior, as well.
The company has upped the ante for the boom design game with two new booms, the $700 Standard Light Boom #3800 and $550 Compact Light Boom #3810. With a rear handle, remarkable sliding counterweight system and self-arresting design, the arms are comfortable to arc and secure, even in small spaces. There is a scale for precisely setting the angle of adjustment, including 360º of rotation at the head for a lot of directional control over lighting angles. Chimera says the whole assembly can be put together within five minutes without the need for tools.
The Compact Light Boom #3810, at a payload max of 7.5 lbs, is particularly useful for tighter shooting locations. For larger lighting systems of up to 15 lbs maximum, the Standard Light Boom #3800 has a slightly longer reach. Compatible with the new light booms, the Chimera Pancake Lantern is an overhead diffusion light source. For those looking for a complete overhead kit, it’s included in Chimera’s Pancake Lantern and Standard Boom Kit #1840 along with Triolet #9930 with quick release speed ring and stand adapter at $1,650.
At NAB this last April, the company also announced Tech Lightbanks sized for the ARRI S30 and S60 SkyPanel LED lights. For the larger S60 SkyPanels, there are two available mounts: a Shallow model with depth of 12” or an extended Standard model at 16”. Both include mounting frame, full diffusion screen, storage sack and 1/2 and 1/4 grids. The Shallow kit also comes with an 1/8 grid inner baffle. A smaller version for the SkyPanel S30 comes with mount, full diffusion front screen, 1/2 and 1/4 grid front screens, 1/8 grid inner baffle and bag.
