JVS PROD7000

Ideal for ENG news, sports, documentaries, events and other location shoots, the JVC GY-HM750U ProHD compact shoulder-mount camcorder features native “ready-to-edit” HD and SD file-format recording. The camcorder’s recording formats are XDCAM EX files (.MP4) at 35, 25 and 19 Mb/s, which can be wrapped in .MOV files for native ingest into Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premiere, and DV .AVI files (which can be .MOV wrapped as well) for use with widespread standard-definition systems. Native file recording enables immediate access of the content without having to go through a transcoding or rewrapping process. The dual SDHC memory card slots have simultaneous recording capability for redundant backup or instant client copies. Inheriting the top-of-the-line 3-CCD imaging system from JVC’s flagship GY-HM790U ProHD camcorder, the GY-HM750U delivers full 1920x1080 image capture. The ergonomic body design features a 68-pin, direct-docking interface for seamless connections to a variety of modules, providing such features as direct feeds to microwave transmitters, fiber and Multicore studio systems, and an SxS recorder for media flexibility. The Pre Rec feature stores 20 seconds of footage in continuous cache memory before recording begins, helping to capture breaking events and prevent missed shots. Other features include variable frame-rate recording, extensive image customization, a high-resolution LCOS viewfinder and a 4.3-inch, flip-out LCD monitor. Two XLR audio inputs with phantom power and manual audio level controls with an audio meter provide professional audio control. The standard camcorder system includes a Canon 14:1 zoom lens and accommodates 1⁄3-inch bayonet lenses. List Price: $7,450. Contact: JVC U.S.A., (800) 526-5308, www.pro.jvc.com.

SEEING RED IN 3D

Element Technica brings its Atom line of stereoscopic 3D rigs to RED Epic digital cameras. Available in aluminum or with a lighter magnesium construction, the Atom features a design streamlined for a twin set of RED Epics, with a minimal weight of only 13 pounds and dimensions optimized for the bodies of the RED Epic. Accommodating full-sized PL and PV prime lenses as well as smaller zooms, the Atom provides a full 5K-3D beamsplitter system that can weigh as little as 36 pounds when rigged with a pair of RED Epics. Like the other Technica 3D rigs, the Atom provides full interocular (IO) and convergence (C or toe-in) control, as well as metadata recording. The Atom also integrates with the familiar cine-style lens control available for Element Technica’s Quasar, Pulsar and Neutron 3D rigs. For an even more efficient setup, an optional Atom Pro Kit integrates multiplexing, sync and power-conditioning electronics in the Atom that eliminates three external components from the basic Atom rig while also including a pair of RED Epic-specific 3D I/O modules that remove up to 12 cables from the rig. List Price: Begins at $64,000. Contact: Element Technica, (323) 641-7327, www.elementtechnica.com.
